Teach Yourself Photography
May I offer you some essentials many books don't cover, but that I think are important...

"Archiving" Your Images
Archive your negatives and slides by storing and organizing them properly. Record your digital images at their best to view, print, and send. Take digital archiving with a big grain of salt.

A Word About Travel
Travel has nothing to do with the quality of your photographs, but it will add a new dimension to your life.

Croatia
Croatia (Hrvatska) is less known to Americans as a vacation spot than it is to Austrians, Germans and Britons. They have sought its warm Mediterranean climate since the mid 19th century. In fact, we were warned by European friends about the crowds of summer, and chose to visit in late March. We traded slow-season museum, hotel and restaurant closings for crowd-free travel and sight-seeing.

Dragged Kicking and Screaming into Digital
Film processing costs and repeated airport x-rays caused me to rethink film for my travel photography, to say nothing of the instant feedback after each shot, and total control over quality in the digital darkroom.

My time spent scanning my film shots has partially prepared me to deal with first generation RAW digital images. I expect to handle my unprocessed digital camera captures in about the same ways I do my scans.

Now I get it. Now I understand what a perrenial pain film was. It wasn't just the cost of processing, but the agony of bad exposures when I thought I had it right, or the wrong film in the camera for the light conditions.

Epson V700 Film-Capable Flatbed Scanner
Every home office needs a flatbed scanner. Why not choose one that also can do batches of 35mm and medium format negatives and slides?

Hyperfocal Distance Trick
Would you like everything in your scene to be in sharp focus? This trick will give you the maximum depth of field in your scenics.

If You Don't Want Everything in Focus
Sometimes you want to blur a confusing or unwanted background. Here's how.

Printing
Quality printing is possible with the right printer and the right resolution going into the printer.

Resources
I hope that the people who wrote these books and made these web pages will help and inspire you as well.

Scanning
Scanning tells you how to convert images on film or paper to digital information in a computer. Scanning is your only choice if you want to share images you made years ago on fim.

Three Ways to Improve Your Photos!
Will spending $1,500 on the latest Leica lens make your images better? Probably not, unless your technique is somewhat refined. All you'll get is better images at f2.

Why You Need an Imaging Program
Nearly all first-generation digital images and scans of film need some tonal or color improvments, as well as cropping, speck clean-up, and sizing the image to your desired use. Photoshop Elements is the best kept secret in digital photography.
